  • Our test on Tennessee Williams is Thursday/Friday
  • For the college survey portion of our college search project, research and make a bulleted list of everything up to and including the bullet on majors—so only this portion
    • a picture of the college
    • location
    • acceptance profile
      • requirements/stats for entrance and a comparison with the stats of who really got in with what stats – list the full range and chart where you match – this should be at the upper end of the criteria or you stand small chance of admission. Include any factors like legacy, race, endowments, etc. that will help you
        • SAT/ACT scores
        • GPA
        • number of applicants
        • number of acceptances
        • your chance of being accepted
        • look up the college in the counseling office and take down the stats - who got in, with what GPA, SAT scores, outside achievements
        • do the same with kids who did not get in (I am not sure this is in the book - if it is not, talk to seniors)
        • not the base-level acceptance numbers, but the real numbers and your ability to get in
        • this must be do-able, not dream-able
        • make sure you really match in all the crucial categories
    • start/stop dates for application - highlight all rolling application dates
    • list early application deadlines and early acceptance deadlines
    • list all your possible majors and then look up the ranking of this college for each of the majors
      • make sure you look at the ranking of the particular major and not of the overall ranking of the college itself
        • 3/2 programs or programs allied with other colleges
        • companion programs - like Occidental’s 3-2 program where you spend three years at Oxy, two at another college (like Cal Tech, Columbia, Georgetown, Cornell, etc.) and receive a dual degree from both.  Lots of schools have these and are a great way to get into a school you want through a different means.  List all possibilities for multi campus studies and dual degrees.
and then write a 1 to 1.5 page evaluation of the college. Complete this for 3-5 colleges.
